Privacy policy

This page explains what UserCarte ("we", "the site") collects when you visit, and how it's used. UserCarte is a small, independently run travel search and guides site — we keep the data we collect to a minimum.

Information we collect

  • Approximate location. To prefill your likely departure city and show a relevant currency, we look up an approximate location from your IP address at the moment you visit. This happens live on each visit — we don't store a history of where you've browsed from.
  • Search inputs. What you type into the flight or hotel search (cities, dates, travelers) is used only to build the search link to our booking partner. If you're signed in, that search is also saved to your own "My trips" page (see Visitor accounts below) so you can find it again later — for a visitor without an account, it isn't saved on our end at all.
  • Admin sign-in. UserCarte has one administrator account used to manage the site's guides, handled the same way as any visitor account below.
  • Visitor accounts. You can optionally create an account (email and password, or Google sign-in) to save trips and personalize your experience. If you do, we store your email address, the country we detect from your IP address the first time you sign in, a count of the pages you view and affiliate links you click on the site afterward, and the flight/hotel searches you continue on to our partner sites (each saved as a real link to that exact search — never a confirmed booking, since we have no way of knowing whether you completed one on the partner's site) — all shown back to you on your own account pages. We don't track browsing activity by identity for visitors who don't create an account.

What we don't do

We don't sell your data or share visitor data with outside parties beyond the ad and analytics partners described in this policy, and we don't have a newsletter or marketing list. We never fabricate or guess at data — the usage counts and country shown for an account reflect only what actually happened on that account.

Advertising

UserCarte may display ads served by Google AdSense and its advertising partners. These partners may use cookies, device identifiers, or similar technology to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites, and to measure how ads perform. This is separate from — and not linked to — the visitor account data described above.

If you're in the European Economic Area, the UK, or Switzerland, you may see a cookie consent prompt that lets you choose whether to allow personalized advertising; declining still lets you use the site normally, with only non-personalized ads (or none) shown. You can also opt out of personalized advertising generally through Google's Ads Settings or aboutads.info.

Third-party services we rely on

  • Aviasales and Hotellook (via the Travelpayouts affiliate network) power flight and hotel search results. Once you leave UserCarte to view results or book, you're on their site, subject to their own privacy policies.
  • Google AdSense may serve ads on this site, as described above under Advertising.
  • Convex hosts the site's backend, including the admin sign-in and the guide articles.
  • An IP-geolocation lookup service is used, as described above, to guess your approximate location for currency and city prefill.

Cookies and local storage

Your browser stores a session token (via local storage, not a tracking cookie) if you sign in — as the site administrator or as a visitor with your own account — so you stay signed in between visits. If ads are shown on this site, our advertising partners (Google AdSense and its network) may separately set their own cookies for ad delivery, personalization, and measurement, as described under Advertising above.

Your options

If you created a visitor account, you can sign out at any time from the account menu. To request that we delete your account and the data tied to it, email us at the address below and we'll remove it.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
